Student Activities
The new theater in Chesapeake Center gave the drama students a proper home; since the campus had opened, they had been housed in a leaky barn, with seating from the old Bel Air Racetrack. Chesapeake Center’s theater was home to a number of student and community theatre troupes, and hosts dozens of cultural events each year. For several years in the 1990s, the college even had a partnership with the Washington Ballet.
Along with an active drama scene on campus, students have long engaged in literary pursuits, publishing a yearbook and many literary magazines through the years. The student newspaper, started in 1958, has become the award-winning Owl Magazine, available each semester.
